Alia Bhatt discusses Raha, how Ranbir Kapoor and she get excited when their toddler does something new, and how motherhood has changed her decisions in an interview with Indianexpress.com.
Alia Bhat links acting and motherhood to empathy. Alia returned to Rocky Aur Rani to shoot the love track Tum Kya Mile months after giving birth in November 2022. After having children, she signed on for Karan Johar’s prison-break drama thriller Jigra. Alia says motherhood’s gamut of emotions prompted her decision.
Sunday marked the actor’s debut book Ed Finds a Home. Alia told Indianexpress.com on the sidelines of the event how she makes creative storytimes for her daughter Raha, how her actor husband Ranbir Kapoor and she get excited when their toddler does something new, and how motherhood has influenced her choices.
Motherhood is so unpredictable because it changes you so much. Your soul changes as your bond with your child grows. When it happens, you soak it up. I have a lot of empathy, so whether I choose a script or read a book, it’s all about how deep it hits, entertains, or stirs.
My empathy has increased, making me more sensitive. Concerning family and protection… I was a family person before. You adore your parents and sister, but becoming a parent changes that. Primal, protective feelings arise. I don’t know how that affects my choices, but it’s heightened my sensibilities.
That’s right. Jigra found me during my most tigress, protective phase. It may have driven me crazy about the material. It spoke to me deeply. It may have spoken to me before, but it did so differently. It resonated differently. That may have produced something different. I can’t measure or shape that, but motherhood does matter.
Seeing her personality develop. She surprises me when she names animals or repeats after me like a grown-up. Her communication is interesting since she is growing up. Ranbir and I often chat about Raha and what was amazing that day when we have time at night. You love giving your child experiences and learning from them as a parent. A simple nurturing sensation.
