The caption read, “The moral police have been my constant companion throughout my career. They had a ball with this one! Manoranjan disregarded norms. It was an adaption of the great 1963 American comedy Irma Le Douce, and I played Nisha. A respectful, independent, and funny sex worker.”
She said the film was Shammi Kapoor’s directorial debut, RD Burman was the music director, and Sanjeev Kumar was the lead. FC Mehra was a family friend. Zeenat stated they shot the film fully in Mumbai studios.
‘She wasn’t ashamed of her job’
Regarding her film role, Zeenat stated, “Nisha was no damsel! In addition to her provocative and attractive clothing, she was unrepentant about her job. I could have fun with this sexually liberated, financially independent character who could fight and turn down any man.”
Zeenat’s ‘titillating shower sequence’
She said she is a “director’s actor” and that Shammi Kapoor ‘coaxed out’ a great performance in this film. Music and costumes were fun, too,” wrote Zeenat. We dance on huge musical instruments in Aaya hoon main tujhko le jaoonga, Asha ji sings Chori Chori Solah Singar, which has a titillating shower sequence, and all three Mangeshkar sisters sing Dulhan Maike Chali, which is set in a police van full of sex workers being taken to the station! Zeenat said, “The 70s were great! Although the moral police are always there, the atmosphere of exploration, freedom, and fashion was unmatched!”
Feedback on her post
Priyanka Chopra responded to her tweet, “Moral police looks to be here to stay! You are beyond (heart eyes).” Manish Malhotra, a fashion designer, wrote, “You look amazing in the film I loved the music too
The actor Archana Puran Singh remarked, “I recall viewing this fantastic film in Dehradun’s tiny town theaters! It was a huge experience. Still young, I was captivated by the world created, and my parents sent a small girl to view a film on this subject (I wonder if it had an A certificate and that I was still allowed!).Those were different times and parents were probably uninformed. I’m glad I watched a film that still sticks in my mind.
Zeenat appeared in fewer films after her unhappy 1985 marriage to Mazhar Khan. They were married until his 1998 death. Azaan and Zahaan Khan were her sons with Mazhar. She’ll return to acting with Showstopper.
